The Pilot Club of Jones County would like to extend an invitation to the annual Touch-a-Truck event Sept. 20 on grounds of the Jones County Sheriff’s Department. This is the eighth year for Toucha- Truck, and each year it has been bigger and better. This is an event for all ages. Attendees will be amazed with the sights, sounds, and the smell of delicious barbecue sandwiches, burgers and hotdogs. Pilot Club members will be there selling homemade desserts. Make sure that you have your phones or cameras ready because you will be taking lots of pictures.
This is a fundraiser for the club, and proceeds help accomplish Pilot International’s mission: “focusing on encouraging brain safety and health and supporting those who care for others.” Last year’s proceeds helped pay for 272 helmets for Jones County Pre-K students, First Baptist Preschool students, and HeadStart students. The helmets were presented after the students attended the “Brain-Minders, Protect Your Brain for Life” puppet shows. A total of 1,003 students — kindergarten, first and second graders — received BrainMinders coloring books.
Proceeds were also used for other projects in the community, including recognizing the caregivers, and awarding scholarships to two Jones County seniors.
The Pilot Club extended its thanks to Sheriff Butch Reece, Capt. Shane Moody and Chief Earl Humphries, without whom the event could not take place.
The hours for the event are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Jones County Sheriff’s Office is located at 123 Holmes Drive in Gray. Admission is $5 for ages 2 and up.
