Crime Watch

The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department Sept. 23-29, 2022.

Sept. 23

Deputy Sullivan was patrolling the area of James Road at Hwy. 18 East, when he noticed a vehicle pass by with one headlight and one taillight not working. Sullivan conducted a traffic stop at that time. The deputy made contact with the driver and advised the reason for the stop. Once Sullivan checked the driver and vehicle information through the NCIC system, it came back to show the vehicle had no insurance. The driver advised Sullivan that at the time he and his girlfriend did not have the money to purchase insurance on the vehicle. The driver was arrested and transported to the Jones County LEC for no insurance and a warning was given for the headlight and taillight requirements.

Sept. 24

Deputy Morris was dispatched to the Shurling Drive area in reference to a shoplifting incident. When in route to the business, dispatch notified Morris that a male left the scene in a truck loaded with several things in the truck bed headed towards Bibb County. Morris did not make contact with any subject or vehicle that was described. Upon arrival at the business, Morris was advised the subject attempted to buy a pack of t-shirts but the card he was attempting to use did not work indicating the PIN number was wrong. A store employee advised the male left without purchasing anything, but she believed the subject had a pack of t-shirts hidden in his clothing. The employee and Morris obtained security footage and was able to observe the male subject putting three packs of t-shirts in his pants. The footage did not show the male’s face, nor did it show a tag number on the vehicle. The subject could not be located so nothing further was done at that time.
