The Jones County Friends of the Library is still having their used book sales and encourages the community to snag some reading material for a great price for the summer.
Sarah Hancock, president of the Jones County Friends of the Library, said she’s always excited for the used book sales.
She said it’s a great opportunity for those who love to read a lot.
“The Friends of the Library used book sales are still going very well, and we still have them every second Saturday of the month,” she said. “All of the money we receive from the book sales goes to the Jones County Public Library. We’ve given them about $27,000 since we’ve been doing these sales.”
The Friends of the Library are located at the Jones County Pre-K in building E, and the sales are always from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Hancock said the next sale for the summer will be July 13. She said they have children’s books, romance novels, mystery books, inspirational books, cook books, fiction, and much more.
“These sales are important, because they get people interested in reading. Also all of the money goes to the library, and they can use it to buy books or anything else they need. The sales help the community and the library,” she said.
Hardback books are $1 each, paperback books are 50 cents each and children’s books are five for $1. The president said people should check out the book sales, because they can stock up on books for a cheap price.
Hancock said the money raised through the sales have helped the Jones County Library buy new books, a drop box, and other things. She said the library can use the funds for whatever they need.
“People should read, because they can sit in Jones County and travel the world,” she said.
“They can learn about so many different places. Reading brings enjoyment, but it also helps us so much. Reading is a part of life.”
Hancock enjoys the book sales, because she gets to meet new people. She said people can donate books to the Jones County Friends of the Library by reaching out to the Jones County Library. She said if anyone is interested in joining Jones County Friends of the Library, they should ask library staff about reaching out to her.
They are always interested in new members who share a love for books and reading.
“Everyone seems to really enjoy the book sales. They realize by buying books here, they are helping our library,” she said. “We really hope to see more people come to the sales and take advantage of them, because we have some great choices here.”
