Hinson Law Firm, a family law firm that recently opened in Jones County, is ready to take contested cases for Jones County locals.
The law firm is located at 111 Dolly Street in downtown Gray, and is open Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Kaitlin Hinson, the solo practitioner at Hinson Law Firm, said she moved to Jones County in 2002 with her parents, and she’s lived here ever since. She said her husband’s family is from Jones County. When she worked in Milledgeville, it was in the same circuit as Jones County, and she wanted to stay in the same circuit.
“I love the people in Jones County. I love being so close to everything we do, and we’re right here at home,” she said. “I’m happy to be in Gray. It’s a small town, and very family oriented. I love the support you get from being in a small town.”
She said Hinson Law Firm does family law. She takes on divorce, custody, adoption, legitimations, and estate planning cases. She said she loves having her own business in Gray, and she loves the people.
“Hinson Law Firm opened in July 2020, and I previously worked for a firm in Milledgeville. I had a baby in 2019, went on maternity leave, went back to work, then COVID-19 hit. I just decided at that time I didn’t want to work full time. I was doing family law, and I took a step back. I was working from home only doing uncontested cases. I got busy enough eventually to open this office in 2021, but it was by appointment only. Only for the last few months have I been taking contested cases again,” Hinson said.
The attorney said family law just kind of fell into her lap. She said she was always into the child welfare side of things. She said she was a CASA volunteer, then when she was out of law school, she went to the district attorney’s office in Macon and was prosecuting in juvenile court. She said juvenile court is more rehabilitative, and she enjoys working with the youth in that way.
“My favorite thing to do is adoptions. It’s always nice when someone is stepping up to be a parent of a child who is not biologically theirs. It’s always a happy and special time,” she said. “I like to help people through difficult times in their lives. I always told my parents I would be an attorney, but I actually didn’t decide until my junior year of college I’d go to law school.”
Hinson said she has a passion for what she does, and she will always be honest. She said she won’t give bad advice. She has a lot of experience in her field, so people in Jones County should think about choosing her to represent them.
“Family law is everywhere, and there’s always going to be people who need a divorce attorney or an adoption attorney, and I’m here for that,” she said. “I like that I know a lot of people in Jones County, so I’m able to connect with them. They have someone close by; they don’t have to go to Macon or Milledgeville. Let’s have a conversation about things and get to know each other better first, then you can make a decision.”
