Local girl receives postcards from all 50 states

Fischer Reynolds, a fiveyear old in Jones County, has managed to gather postcards from all 50 states thanks to a Facebook post her mother made gathering attention during the summer.

Logan Reynolds, Fischer’s mother, said their family has lived in Jones County their entire lives, and they enjoy the small-town feel. She said they like that Jones County isn’t busy. She said Fischer attends Turner Woods Elementary School and loves it.

“Gray is homey, so we like it here. It’s not too busy,” she said. “We’re glad so many people in Jones County have helped us with the postcards. It’s amazing how this project started here and has now gone across the nation.”

She said it was important for Fischer to take on this project, because it’s been a good way for her daughter to learn about the different places on the postcards. She said it also connects the family with new people they’ve never met.

“Fischer loves getting mail and going places. My husband asked his co-worker if she would send Fischer a postcard, and she said she would. I posted on Facebook if anyone was going to any neat places, to please send a postcard to Fischer. When the first postcard came in, Fischer decided she wanted a postcard from all 50 states,” the mother said.

The little girl said her favorite thing about collecting the postcards was checking the mail. She said she was very excited to get each card. She said she learned there is a place called Mars, Pennsylvania, and it’s neat to have so many postcards.

“I like learning about new states and getting mail. I want to go to some of the states,” Fischer said. “I want to go to Disney World and New York one day. My favorite postcard is from Kentucky, because the stamp smells good.”

Logan said Fischer has received a few postcards from other countries, and she would like to get postcards from every country now. She said the postcards from all 50 states took from May until about September to come through the postal system.

“A lot of the facts on the cards are things a fiveyear- old would never think about. There’s one postcard from South Carolina that someone found from an antique store. It’s from about 1910, so she has a postcard someone wrote on during that time period,” Logan said.

Fischer’s mother said she is learning how to read in kindergarten right now, so one day she can read all of the postcards people have sent to her. She said they will continue to collect postcards, and they are amazed at how many people have helped with the project.

“She still wants a postcard from China. Unfortunately, she only knows about China, because of COVID-19,” Logan said. “She’s very inquisitive and wants a globe for Christmas. She has always wanted to know how things work. This has definitely been a fun, interesting project to take on.”
