“In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.” (Isa 6:1).
Unlike King Uzziah who was a mere mortal and died, God the King is eternal and will never perish. Uzziah sat on an earthly throne which death took from him. God sits upon Heaven’s throne and neither death nor anything else will remove God from His Kingship.
His throne was high and lifted up, indicating the absolute majesty and glory of God. No one and no thing is higher than God. God’s train filled the temple. Trains symbolized wealth and power.
While earthly kings had long trains, God’s train was so long and huge that it filled the entire temple. No human king could handle such a train for he would not have the physical ability to pull it. It would be too large and heavy for a man. But not so for God. His train was huge, indicating His absolute power and majesty.
Isaiah saw God as a powerful, almighty King and Lord. He saw God as the majestic ruler of the universe, an eternal King whose throne would never come to an end.
Earthly kings come and go with their short-lived power. But God is eternal with power for evermore! May we all see God as Isaiah saw Him--sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up.
