The Pilot Club completed its September project, fingerprinting kindergarten students (with parental approval) in the four elementary schools.Pilot members registered students by recording their physical characteristics (height, weight, eye color).

Lucy Craft Laney was born in Macon April 13, 1854, to Louisa and David Laney. Her father, born a slave, was a Presbyterian minister and skilled carpenter who had purchased his freedom 20 years prior to Lucy’s birth.

The Jones County Community took its first step in the process of developing its brand identity at a kickoff meeting last week.The Sept. 5 meeting was held at Butler Hall and was attended by an estimated group of 20 that included elected officials, community leaders and interested residents.
