Veterans Appreciation Day set Saturday

Jones County’s 20-plus years of tradition showing appreciation to local veterans continues Saturday with its annual Veterans Appreciation Day celebration. The kickoff for the event is the Col. Allen Carr Memorial 5K. The 5K begins at 9 a.m., and registration begins at 8:30 a.m. in front of the W.E.

THIS WEEK & BEYOND Second annual Fields of Faith The Jones County Fellowship of Christian Athletes will host their 2nd annual Fields of Faith Nov. 9 at Greyhound Field (JCHS football field). Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the night of worship begins at 6:30 p.m. This is a free public event.

Donny’s Propane provides personal propane needs

Donny’s Propane, a local propane company, is open for customers who are looking for a personal touch with their propane needs. The business is located at 8323 Rivoli Road in Juliette, and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Local church holds fall festival for community

St. James AME Church in Gray held a fall festival on Oct. 15, gathering residents around the Jones County community for some fall fun. Lucy Coxton, a coordinator for the event, said she was excited for the event, and she was glad to see the people who came out to the fall festival.

The Not-So-Scary Grayberry Spectacular unites community

The Not-So Scary Grayberry Spectacular, a free community-wide Halloween event, held Oct. 22 in downtown Gray, gave residents in the community an alternative to trick-ortreating and becoming a hub for togetherness.

Albert Fredrick Bentley is the local veteran of the week. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955-1959. He was stationed at Kelly Air Force Base, Texas; Lackland Air Force Base, Texas; Eigin Air Force Base, Florida; and Spandaughlin Air Force Base, Germany. Do you know a veteran we can feature?

The Jones County News salutes the local Veteran of the Week Frank H. Childs, Sr. enlisted in the US Navy shortly after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor in Dec. 1941. He served on the USS John W. Weeks a Sumner Class Destroyer. The crew saw active duty in the closing months of World War II.

THIS WEEK & BEYOND Plentitude Baptist Fall Festival and Trunk-or-Treat Plentitude Baptist Church, 145 Plentitude Church Road, Gray, will have a Fall Festival Saturday, Oct. 29, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and will also host a trunk-or-treat on Halloween night, Tuesday, Oct. 31, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
