MWES STEM class makes ice cream from scratch

Mattie Wells Elementary STEM Teacher Sierra Sanders recently conducted a tasty science experiment with her fourth and fifth-grade exploratory classes, where they attempted to make ice cream from scratch.
Representing the Pilot Club, Beth Coon, Fay Mathews, Nancy McCook, and Wanda Bush presented a check to Melody Kelly of the Department of Family and Children Services. The money will be used in supporting and assisting families during the Christmas season. We are thankful for this agency and the services they provide in our community. CONTRIBUTED

Pilot Club donates to DFACS
The Jones County Kiwanis Club made a donation of $750 to the Jones County 4-H Club. This donation represents one of the regular quarterly payments that the Kiwanis Club makes each year to children’s organizations in the county. Lindsey Jackson representing the Cooperative Extension program and 4-H Club accepted the gift from Kiwanians, Bill Goodman and Tom Jones, and Kiwanis President, Darrell Partee. Ms. Jackson presented an interesting update on the 4-H Club. CONTRIBUTED

Lacy Rogerson is the local veteran of the week.She joined the Army Reserves in February of this year, attended basic training at Fort Sill, Okla., and the first phase of Advanced Individual Training (AIT) at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

The Dec. 12 Gray Christmas Parade had over 100 entries, including more than 90 floats that were enjoyed by the thousands who lined West Clinton Street.Awards were given for the Best Use of Lights and Best Use of Theme in the community and commercial division.

Members of the Les Dames Magnifique wish to express sincere gratitude to the Jones County community for donating to the Soles for Souls. 241 pairs of new or slightly used shoes were donated to be sent to needy persons abroad. They were immediately boxed up and mailed off.

In the fall, the entire seventh grade took a field trip to Zoo Atlanta, where students observed and learned about many animals, including gorillas, giraffes, turtles, snakes, elephants, and much more!Katherine Mullis, a seventh-grade ELA teacher, explained the purpose of the field trip.
