Track teams qualify for state in 12 events

4x800 boys relay sets county record The “thrill of victory and the agony of defeat” was popularized by ABC’s Wide World of Sports during its heyday. Competitors from Jones County’s track and field teams were not yet born during that era of sports television, but they experienced a bit of both of those emotion’s during Saturday’s state sectionals in Union Grove that served as qualifiers for this week’s GHSA Class AAAAA state meet in Carrollton that’s scheduled for Thursday through Saturday.

Youth baseball, softball wrap up spring filled with enthusiasm

A season of baseball and softball among players young and old is set to conclude next week among the youth baseball ranks. Following a spring of action at both the Highway 49 and Highway 18 complexes, league champions will crown what has been yet another season of excitement on the diamond for those in coach pitch, tee ball and wee ball all the up to the more experienced players.

Lady Hounds slip by Ola, qualify for sectionals

By the closest of margins, the Lady Greyhounds kept their postseason alive in last week’s area tournament. By one single stroke, Jones County edged Ola with an overall score of 306, good enough to claim the fourth and final qualifying spot for the sectional round, held earlier this week.

Variety of summer sports camps offered by JCHS

As the summer draws near, there will be no shortage of sports camps hosted by the Greyhounds and Lady Greyhounds for youngsters from Jones County and surrounding areas. Overall, JCHS will host a total of 11 different sports camps.

Greyhounds go down swinging in extra-inning postseason loss to Chiefs

The Chiefs also entered the GHSA Class AAAAA state tournament ranked sixth in their classification.

Ridgeway signs on to continue career at Allen

With her determined play on both ends of the floor, Amaris Ridgeway was a focal point of what made the Lady Greyhounds successful during her career at JCHS. That was capped the past two seasons by a berth in the Sweet 16 and this past year a trip to the Elite 8 with Jones County playing for a Final Four appearance on its home floor.
