Jones County Board of Education members had a quick called meeting last week to take care of some unfinished business.
Board Chairman Ginger Bailey called the May 27 meeting to order. The meeting’s agenda contained only three items and did not include a closed session.
Bailey said the first item was a personnel recommendation to rescind a vote April 18 regarding the appointment of Clinton Burston as the interim Jones County School Superintendent for May and June.
The appointment turned out to be premature.
The chairman asked for a motion. Board member Kim Washburn made the motion to rescind the April 18 appointment of the interim, and the vote to approve the motion was unanimous.
The next item was a follow up. Bailey said a personnel recommendation would be in order to hire the Burston as interim superintendent effective June 1. She called for a motion, and board member Brady Skinner made the motion to appoint the interim superintendent effective June 1.
The vote to approve the motion was unanimous.
The final item that Bailey said was another personnel recommendation was to reassign Charles Lundy as superintendent advisor for the month of June. Washburn made the motion, and the vote to approve was unanimous.
With no more items on the agenda, the meeting was adjourned.
Burston was sworn in as interim school superintendent at 10 a.m. Monday morning.
The next meeting of the Board of Education is scheduled at 6 p.m. June 10.
