SHERIFF’S OFFICE
A domestic call unexpectedly escalated into the discovery of boxes, bags and jars of marijuana in the bedroom of a home on Graham Road.
A report of the arrest of John Trimakas by Jones County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Matthew Dennis states that he was dispatched to the Graham Road address close to midnight Dec. 26 in reference to a dispute. Dennis said, when he arrived at the scene, he made contact with an individual later identified as Trimakas.
The deputy said he advised the suspect that he had a report that he had been in an argument, at which point Trimakas said he had come outside to smoke weed.
Dennis said the suspect produced a marijuana blunt, which he took control of immediately and put it on the ground. The deputy said Trimakas was placed under arrest.
Dennis said Deputy Jared Marcum was also at the scene and secured the marijuana as evidence. While talking to Trimakas, Dennis said he indicated that he used mushrooms as well.
The deputy said the suspect was advised of his rights and agreed to speak with them. He said he asked Trimakas how much weed he had in his residence. The suspect’s response was a smile and a request for a shot of wine.
After more conversation that included a family member, Trimakas said he would go to jail so long as it was understood that every illegal substance in the house was his and no one else’s.
“I asked what kind of substances was in the house. He stated weed and then voluntarily escorted us to his bedroom,” Dennis said.
The deputy said, once inside the bedroom, Trimakas pointed out the marijuana, which was in jars, boxes and bags of copious amounts of marijuana plants, leaves, buds, sticks, stems and seeds.
Dennis said a continued search revealed three shipping cardboard boxes and a paper sack full of cultivated marijuana as well as 20-plus glass labeled jars.
In addition to the marijuana, the deputy said there were three books about the growing and cultivation of marijuana, two spiral notebooks filled with notes, scales, microscopes and other items used in the agricultural field.
He said the evidence was collected, logged and submitted to the evidence room.
Dennis said Trimakas was turned over to Sgt. Travis Walker to be transported to the Jones County Law Enforcement Center, and warrants were secured for his arrest.
The deputy noted that the encounter with Trimakas was recorded on his and Marcum’s camera systems.
