A series of bad decisions escalated traffic offenses to felony charges that were recently indicted by a Jones County Grand Jury.
Michael Rawlins Snider was indicted Feb. 5 on three counts of felony obstruction of an officer. Snider was arrested Nov. 30, 2023, by Gray Police Officer Terius Farley for DUI less safe alcohol, DUI, failure to maintain lane, driving in divided highway, controlled access to roadways and emergency lanes and reckless driving.
Snider was taken to the Jones County Law Enforcement Center by Farley to be booked for the offenses, but that was a prelude to the charges that led to the felony indictments. A report of the incident by Corp. Hannah Goodson stated she met Farley in the sallyport intake area when he brought Snider to the Jones County Law Enforcement Center. She said Snider was singing and joking at first but became uncooperative. She said he started making comments of a sexual nature and was uncooperative as Farley was explaining his charges.
Goodson said after Farley left, Snider would not obey commands and became combative when she tried to get him to go into the holding cell. At one point she said he started punching the glass on the holding cell. When she tried to stop him, he almost hit her in the face and at one point tried to grab her wrist.
Farley was called back to the jail to assist, and Jones County Sheriff Deputy Jarrod Elrod heard the call and also responded. Goodson said Farley had his Taser drawn, and Elrod deployed his Taser shortly after arrival.
She said Farley grabbed Snider and drug him into the holding cell. Goodson said Snider was later cleared by medical personnel.
A report by Elrod stated he was close by when he heard the call about the physical altercation in the booking area. He said when he arrived, Farley had Snider at Taser point, but he was actively resisting and squaring up to fight the officer.
Elrod said he drew his Taser and Farley holstered his and prepared to go hands on with the subject. He said he made the decision to deploy his Taser because of Snider’s continued aggression.
The deputy said the subject was immediately subdued after being struck by the Taser probes and was dragged into the holding cell by Farley.
