Early voting seeing big turnout; this is last week

More Jones County voters have cast their ballots, utilizing Early Voting thus far in the upcoming mid-term election, than voted on Election Day in the 2020 presidential election.

The total number of Jones County voters who voted on Election Day Nov. 3, 2020, was 3,927.

Election Superintendent Marion Hatton reported that as of the end of voting, Oct. 28, exactly 4,000 Jones County voters had cast their ballots in the Nov. 8 election. Early voting started Oct. 17, which averages just fewer than 400 voters per day.

Early voting is held at the Jones County Government Center and takes place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The last day to vote early is this Friday, Nov. 4. Jones County has approximately 21,000 registered voters.

Voters will be choosing a U.S. Senator, Governor, Lt. Governor, Secretary of State, State Attorney General, Commissioner of Agriculture, Commissioner of Insurance, State School Superintendent, Commissioner of Labor, U.SHouse of District 8 Representative, State Senator for District 25 and State Representative for District 133 or District 144.

The ballot also includes two proposed constitutional amendments and two statewide referendum questions.

Jones County Probate Judge Lewis Patterson is listed on the ballot, but he is not opposed.

All Jones County precincts will be open from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on the Nov. 8 Election Day.

Should a runoff election be required, it will be held Dec. 6, 2022.
