Early voting for a special election to choose party candidates for Georgia’s Public Service Commissioner began Tuesday.
The dates for Early Voting for the June 17 Special Election are May 27 to June 13. Registered voters can cast their ballots at the Jones County Elections Office in the Government Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
All Jones County precincts will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for the June 17 special election.
There are two candidates on the District 2 Republican Ballot are incumbent Tim Echols and challenger Lee Muns. The Democratic ballot has one candidate, Alicia M. Johnson.
The District 3 Republican ballot has one candidate, incumbent Fitz Johnson, and the Democratic ballot has four candidates: Daniel Blackman, Peter Hubbard, Robert Jones and Keish Swan Waites.
According to the Georgia Public Service Commission website, the state Public Service Commission sets fair and reasonable rates for services under its jurisdiction.
Utilities, like Georgia Power, are typically regulated by PSC. The commission’s main job is togovern rates and plans.
The commission has the power to regulate utility rates, utility service quality and energy plans.
A May 19 press release from the commission stated that Georgia’s five-member board was able to come to an agreement with Georgia Power to freeze rates for the next three years.
