A window tinting violation that got the attention of a Gray Police officer led to the arrest of four individuals for drug and firearm charges.
Indonesia Mystic Sands, 23, Malik Sands, 19, Xavier Colmon, 20, and Tobias Courts, 18, were arrested March 11 and charged with possession of controlled a substance, possession of controlled substance with intent to distribute, possession of firearm or knife during commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies, possession of controlled substance or marijuana, and cruelty to children in the first degree, deprivation of sustenance.
Indonesia Sands, the driver of the vehicle involved, also faces charges of forgery in the second degree, giving a false name to law enforcement officer, obstruction of a law enforcement officer, driving without license, child seatbelt violation and affixing materials that reduce or increase light transmission reflectance of windows or windshields.
Each of the individuals gave addresses in Macon.
A report of the arrest by GPD Officer Michael Holloway states he was patrolling the area of the Gray Bypass when he noticed a silver Altima with dark tinted windows. He performed a traffic stop in front of a mobile home park on Gray Highway.
The officer informed the driver the reason for the stop and asked for her license. He was given a license with the name of Amya Hayes. While checking the windows with a tint meter, the officer said he smelled marijuana coming from inside the car.
At that point he asked the driver to exit the vehicle and asked her about the marijuana. The driver admitted there could be marijuana in the car, and Holloway asked the three males inside to also get out of the car. A four-year-old was also in the car.
Holloway said he asked the occupants if there was anything illegal in the vehicle. When he received no reply, the officer informed them he would be performing a probable cause search. During the search, Holloway found a state identification in the name of Indonesia Sands in the cupholder. The picture on the ID matched the driver. The officer located a cellophane bag of suspected marijuana inside the car and two backpacks. A larger bag of suspected marijuana was found in the backpacks, as well as a prescription drug bottle, two loaded Glocks and four magazines containing multiple rounds of ammo.
“Both firearms and the suspected marijuana were located within arm’s reach of the four-year-old female, who was sitting in the middle rear seat unrestrained,” Holloway’s report stated.
The male occupants were identified and taken into custody. They were transported to the Jones County Law Enforcement Center by GPD Lt. Mitch Lovick.
Holloway said Indonesia Sands was transported by GPD Officer Dylan Joiner, and a relative came to the scene to take possession of the child. The officer said all the evidence was transported to the Gray Police Department, where it was logged into evidence. The suspected marijuana weighed approximately 10.5 ounces.
The officer said warrants were subsequently secured for all four suspects.
