GRAND JURY
Jones County’s Grand Jury met last week and brought back 24 true bills of indictment for crimes ranging from drug possession to rape and murder.
Nine individuals are facing charges of aggravated assault as a result of the June 6 indictments. Those charges include Shakim Tyhiem Reeder and Tyshun Amire Gilmore, who each face 11 counts of aggravated assault in connection with a shooting incident that occurred at a county recreation site in December of 2022.
Devante Duane Richardson was indicted on the charge of trafficking methamphetamine, and Michael Authement was indicted on charges of arson of lands, arson, burglary and possession of burglary tools. Assistant District Attorney Cara Fiore said those charges came from a report from the Department of Natural Resources that included breaking into and setting a fire to a cabin that led to burning acreage on government-owned land. Charges of dogfighting, theft and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon were included in the indictment against Dan Thomas Cleveland, in addition to the possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute.
He was arrested May 19 during a drug investigation, during which evidence of dogfighting was discovered.
Dakota Howe was indicted on the charge of rape. The incident resulting in the charge took place May 17.
Da’vante Jakari Ross was indicted on the charge of involuntary manslaughter. The shooting that led to the charge took place May 18 and resulted in the death of a 25-year-old Zachery Morris, who it appeared was a friend of the alleged shooter.
The murder charge in the indictments was levied against Charles William Hill Sr. He was charged with malice murder, felony murder and two counts of aggravated assault.
Hill, 86, was arrested April 24. The victim of the shooting was his 86-year-old wife, Ann Marie.
