A Jones County Grand Jury determined, after being presented with the evidence in the case, the next step for a trafficking charge should be Superior Court.
Richard Darryl Johnson was arrested in Jones County Oct. 24 and charged with drug trafficking. He was indicted on the charge of trafficking and false imprisonment by the Grand Jury Dec. 6. The indictment states Johnson was in possession of more than 28 grams methamphetamine but less than 200 grams.
In Facebook post announcing the arrest, Jones County Sheriff Butch Reece said the arrest was a combined effort of patrol officers, criminal investigators and the U.S. Marshals Southwest Regional Task Force.
Reece said the drug arrest happened when JCSO officers, accompanied by U.S. Marshals, were attempting to serve an outstanding warrant on Johnson, who was wanted out of Clayton and Henry counties for a probation violation and failure to appear.
JCSO Investigator Barron Hall said in an Oct. 26 phone interview that Johnson is from Forest Park but was living at an address on Holloman Road. Hall said Johnson has an extensive criminal history and is on felony probation for drug charges.
The investigator said the drug unit received information from patrol officers about activity at Johnson’s location, and he and Sgt. Travis Walker followed up. He said it was discovered that Johnson had warrants out of Texas, Henry County and Clayton County.
Hall said they contacted the marshals, who accompanied them to serve the warrants. He said when they arrived and announced their presence, Johnson was reluctant to come to the door.
He said the marshals made entry, and Johnson was found in the bedroom of the home.
Hall said after the suspect was located, there was no problem taking him into custody. The investigator said all the information they had received from patrol panned out and a trafficking amount of methamphetamine was found in Johnson’s possession.
