A combined effort of Jones County Sheriff’s Office patrol officers, criminal investigators and the U.S. Marshals Southwest Regional Task force resulted the arrest of a man wanted in several counties, now including Jones County on the charge of drug trafficking.
Sheriff Butch Reece announced the Oct. 24 arrest of Richard Darryl Johnson on his Facebook page. The post stated the Jones County Drug Unit, along with the assistance of the United States Marshal Service, went to an address in Jones County to serve an outstanding warrant on Johnson.
The suspect was wanted out of Clayton and Henry counties for probation violation and failure to appear. Johnson was taken into custody without incident, and additional warrants will be secured for Johnson for trafficking in methamphetamine and false imprisonment.
JCSO Investigator Barron Hall said in an Oct. 26 phone interview that Johnson is from Forest Park but was currently living at the address on Holloman Road. Hall said Johnson has an extensive criminal history and is on felony probation for drug charges. The investigator said the drug unit received information from patrol officers about activity at Johnson’s location, and he and Sgt. Travis Walker followed up. He said it was discovered that Johnson had warrants out of Texas, Henry County and Clayton County.
Hall said they contacted the U.S. Marshals, who accompanied them to serve the warrants. He said when they arrived and announced their presence, Johnson was reluctant to come to the door.
“The marshals made entry, and Johnson was found in the bedroom of the home,” the investigator said.
Hall said, after the suspect was located, there was no problem taking him into custody.
“All the information we received from patrol panned out. We found a trafficking amount of methamphetamine in his possession,” he said.
The investigator did not give an amount of the drugs found but said he was comfortable that it was over the required 28 grams for the trafficking charge.
“It was good to see patrol and criminal investigators working together,”
he commented.
