Man indicted for fleeing police, DUI

SUPERIOR COURT

A Macon man was indicted by a Jones County Grand Jury for charges that were the result of an alert of his erratic driving when entering the City of Gray.

Stanley Phillip Wesson was indicted April 8 for the possession of methamphetamine, felony fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer and DUI less safe drugs. He was arrested for the offenses Feb. 23.

A report of his arrest by Gray Police Officer Paul Hathaway states he received an alert about a white truck hauling what appeared to be a refrigerator driving all over the road headed for Gray. He said he watched for the vehicle and fell in behind it, attempting to make a traffic stop.

The truck did not stop, and GPD officer Daniel Pointer also responded.

Hathaway said the driver continued to swerve, almost hitting oncoming traffic on Highway 22, and he instructed Pointer to come around in order to perform a PIT maneuver to stop the truck. He noted that Pointer’s vehicle is equipped with a PIT bumper.

The officer said it took three attempts to stop the truck. Hathaway said the suspect would not exit the truck, and Pointer pulled him out and took him into custody.

Pointer’s report stated he observed a clear/yellow baggy in the driver’s seat of the truck, in plain view, with a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine.

Wesson remains in custody at the Jones County jail.
