1930 – 2023
I was in the halls of Jones County High School next to a portrait of R.
Linton Jordan, and a new teacher asked, “Who is that?” My answer was that he could not be described, only experienced. If you know, you know.
So much of who we are is because of his years of service.
He attacked every task with full passion and a high level of intensity.
As an athlete, teacher, coach and school superintendent, he gave it his all and would accept no less from those around him.
The Apostle Paul wrote, “I know you are neither cold nor hot, I wish you were one or the other,” Rev.
3:15-18. Paul understood the need to accomplish a task with intensity; Mr. Jordan personified a life lived with passion and intensity.
When I became school superintendent, I was told I would have some big shoes to fill. I responded that I wouldn’t try to fill his shoes but only follow his path. There will only be one R. Linton Jordan, no copies or replacements.
Rest well my friend; you finished your race. Have no doubt that you made a difference. We are better because of you.
