Suspects who attempted to flee plead guilty

SUPERIOR COURT

Defendants who were arrested when officers were assisted by teamwork and a traffic jam in a 2021 drug case, entered guilty pleas in Jones County Superior Court.

Antwron Cornelius Cobb was in Jones County Superior Court Oct. 24 to enter a guilty plea to charges of fleeing or attempting to elude police officers, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute and two counts of violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act.

Cobb received a total sentence of 15 years with the first 10 years to be served in confinement. The remainder of his sentence may be served on probation.

His codefendant, Porsia Brecal Ellison, entered a guilty plea to the lesser-included offense of possession of marijuana more than an ounce, the lesser-included offense of possession of cocaine and the lesser included offense of possession of a schedule II controlled substance.

Ellison’s total sentence was five years and the sentence may be served on probation.

A report of the arrests by Jones County Sheriff Office Corp. Kasey Carr states he was sitting stationary monitoring traffic when he observed a white Chevrolet Tahoe approaching the Gray bypass. The deputy said he noticed the windshield and other windows on the vehicle had a dark tint.

He said he pulled behind the vehicle and activated his lights and siren at the intersection of Highway 11 and the bypass. Carr said the Tahoe did not stop and continued on the bypass. When the vehicle passed several safe stopping points, the deputy said he notified dispatch of the situation and advised that they would be approaching Gray Highway. He said Gray Police officers told him over the radio that they were working a wreck at the intersection of the bypass and Highway 18. Gray PD advised that they would shut down southbound traffic in an effort to stop the Tahoe.

Carr said the Tahoe got over in the hash marks in an attempt to go around traffic, but once the driver realized the lanes were blocked, he stopped.

The deputy said the driver obeyed his command to get out the vehicle and was taken into custody. He said Cobb was cleared for weapons and he noticed a large amount of cash in the driver’s pocket.

He said he then ordered the female passenger to get out of the vehicle, and she complied.

Deputy Kevin Veal arrived at the scene and assisted with the female passenger, who admitted to having illegal drugs on her person.

Carr said the bag of drugs found on Ellsion contained marijuana, Ecstasy and a large amount of white pills. She was also taken into custody.

The deputy said he retrieved K-9 Ella from his car and conducted a free air sniff of the vehicle. The K-9 alerted to the odor of narcotics.

Carr said he went back to the vehicle and began a probable cause search. He said he found a small black zipper bag on the passenger-side floor. Inside the bag was a clear baggie of marijuana and a bottle of pills containing Adderall, MDMA and Ecstasy. He said an ibuprofen bottle in the bag contained a large amount of crack cocaine.

Veal transported Cobb and Ellison to the Jones County Law Enforcement Center and Carr said he secured the evidence inside his patrol car. The deputy said he logged in the evidence when he arrived at the LEC and was assisted by a jailer in counting the cash found on Cobb. The total of the cash was $2,585.
