Teacher of the Year a finalist for state title

Jones County School System’s 2025 Teacher of the Year, Charm Mapp, was surprised last week with a visit from Georgia School Superintendent Richard Woods and the announcement that she is a finalist for Georgia Teacher of the Year.

A March 20 post on the Georgia Board of Education Facebook page stated Mapp, an eighth-grade math teacher at Clifton Ridge Middle School in Jones County, is one of the 10 finalists for 2027 Georgia Teacher of the Year.

Woods surprised Mapp with the news that she has been selected as a finalist. Along with the other nine finalists, she will participate in formal interviews and speeches before a panel of judges, who will select the 2027 Georgia Teacher of the Year.

Mapp has 23 years of experience. She serves as a gifted lead teacher and supports the Jones County Virtual Academy.

“She is passionate about challenging students to embrace curiosity, confidence, and a love for learning through authentic mathematical thinking and the Gifted FIRE Project Showcase,” the post stated.

Mapp was named the 2025 Jones County School District Teacher of the Year and is currently pursuing her doctorate in curriculum and instruction.

Throughout the month, Woods will be visiting each finalist’s school to surprise them with the news that they are in Georgia’s top 10.

Jones County School Superintendent Dr. Jessica Graves congratulated Mapp in a Friday email.

“Mrs. Mapp, we appreciate your dedication to high-quality teaching and learning. We are behind you all the way as you advance to the next stage. Thank you for all that you do in service to students, families, and our district,” she said. “Please, join me in congratulating Mrs. Mapp, of Clifton Ridge Middle School, on this well-deserved honor.”
