Six individuals were arrested at a Jones County residence last week after a tip was received by law enforcement concerning the suspension of drug activity.
Brandi Nicole Harris, 41, Justin Keith Woodall, 31, and Katlyn Ruth Ashley, 34, were arrested July 9 and charged with possession of methamphetamine.
Alan James Christian, 38, Joshua Glenn Beasley, 39, and Sonny William Smith, 37, were also arrested July 9. Christian was charged with possession methamphetamine and giving a false name to a law enforcement officer, Beasley was charged with possession alprazolam and possession methamphetamine, and Smith was charged with possession alprazolam, possession methamphetamine, and possession of firearm or knife during commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies.
Jones County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Barron Hall said JCSO Sgt. Travis Walker informed him July 8 that he received information about suspicious activity at a residence on Curtis James Road.
Hall said the information included nicknames of individuals that he recognized and in researching the names, he found several had outstanding warrants.
The investigator said he, Lt. Gerry Nelson and a community supervision officer followed up on the tip July 9 and found a group of people ‘all piled up’ in the same residence.
“We went to the front of the house and found signs of drug use in plain view on the porch,” Hall said.
The investigator said there were people inside of the house and in the back yard. At that point he called for additional officers to assist and secured a warrant to cover the search of the entire property.
Hall said a sweep of the home not only revealed evidence of drug use but the presence of firearms as well. He said Walker and Corp. Jeff Sullivan arrived to assist at the scene.
Jones County Sheriff Butch Reece announced the arrested with a July 11 Facebook post. He said investigators noticed several drug related objects in plain view in the residence and obtained a search warrant to look for additional items.
“After searching the residence, quantities of methamphetamine, marijuana, and prescription pills, along with a firearm were located in the residence,” he said.
Reece said all remain in custody at the Jones County Sheriff’s Office. He added that Smith, Beasley, Ashley, and Christian all have holds from other counties in relation to other offenses.
“Great job to our drug unit, and thanks to all those involved in this case,” the sheriff said. “We haven’t said it in a while, so some folks may have forgotten. Don’t bring drugs into Jones County.”
