SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT

Two individuals were arrested last week for the Oct. 4 shooting of a Haddock man.

Daenisha Kaylia Grubbs, 20, and Rashad Anthony Lay, 27, were both arrested Oct. 18.

Grubbs was charged with being a party to a crime, aggravated assault, and Lay was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm or knife during commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies.

The arrests were announced by Jones County Sheriff Butch Reece on the Jones County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page Oct. 21. Reece stated that both Lay and Grubbs were arrested in LaGrange by the Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force.

In a News story about the shooting, JCSO Capt. Kenny Allen, the lead investigator in the case, said officers were dispatched to the scene on Highway 22 in Haddock Oct. 4 at approximately 9:30 p.m. in reference to a shooting.

He said the house where the shooting occurred is in the area of a local chain store. The captain said when deputies arrived, they found the 32-year-old subject had been shot multiple times.

Allen said the victim was immediately transported by ambulance to the trauma center for treatment where he underwent surgery and was in stable condition.

The captain said the victim was conscious and alert when officers arrived and was able to give them information related to the shooting. Allen said investigators were currently following leads in the case.

He added that investigators did have a person of interest in the case.

Allen said the shooting took place outside of the house, and he added that JCSO deputies are familiar with the address where the incident took place.
