Cruelty to animals results in 15-year sentence

One of two defendants in an animal cruelty case entered received a sentence of 15 years following the entry of a guilty plea. Lisa Michelle Barnes entered her plea Feb. 15 in Jones County Superior Court. She was sentenced to five years for each of four counts of aggravated cruelty to animals.

As voting looms large in national news across broadcast stations and social media, advance voting has begun in Jones County as Georgia’s Presidential Primary approaches next month. Advance voting started Feb. 19 and will continue through March 8, including Saturdays, during the hours of9 a.m.

Thief pleads guilty to auto break-ins

A state House committee has narrowly approved legislation guaranteeing Georgians the right to fish in navigable rivers and streams over the objections of representatives of recreational boating interests who complained the bill is overly restrictive.
