Meyers guilty plea third in Morris Bank case

A press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Middle District of Georgia announced that a third guilty plea was entered in a $3 million fraud case that targeted a bank in Gray.James Kevin Meyers, 57, entered his guilty plea Feb. 18 to the charge of filing false reports.

Qualifying is next week for three of the five positions of the Jones County Board of Education. Candidates will qualify at the Jones County Board of Elections Office located at the Government Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 2-5 and 9 a.m. to noon March 6.

Molestation, trafficking cases among 25 indictments

A Jones County Grand Jury heard 27 bills of indictment presented by the district attorney’s office and law enforcement and brought back true bills on 25 of those.Those indictments included six aggravated assault charges and two charges of the trafficking of methamphetamine.

Superintendent speaks to DDA about schools

Members of the Gray Downtown Development Authority received a visit from the new superintendent for the Jones County School System at their February meeting.The Feb. 9 meeting was called to order by Chairman Sherri Rollins, and the opening prayer was led by DDA Member David Tufts.

Husband pleads guilty to vehicular homicide

The resolution to charges filed against a Forsyth man charged with vehicular homicide, following the death of his wife, took place in Jones County Superior Court last week, but he will live with the consequences of his actions for the remainder of his life.
