Veterans committee considers return of interviews

The Jones County Veterans Committee had its first meeting of 2025 last week to begin preparations for the 25th Veterans Appreciation Day celebration.The June 26 meeting was called to order by committee chairman Ret. Col. Richard Combs, who has led the committee since 2008.

BTA swears in fifth member; appeals low

The Jones County Board of Tax Assessors had its first meeting with a full board in more than a year.Board Chairman Leigh Stanford called the July 3 meeting to order and welcomed new board member Tina Presley. The new board member was sworn in by Superior Court Clerk Pam Dixon June 28.

Arson suspect found dead in apparent suicide

A fire at a local business Sunday morning was discovered not to be accidental when the person who set the blaze was located deceased inside with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
