The Pilot Club awards two Miriam Ethridge Scholarships to high school Seniors each year. This year’s recipients are Emmie Edwards and Lizzie Merritt. They were announced at JCHS Senior Honors Night held May 1.

Terry A. Towles is the local veteran of the week. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He received a certificate of service October 30, 1981, after completing 32 months of distinguished service with America’s finest all-Americans.

Atkinson pleads guilty in bank fraud case

Documents received from the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Georgia in Macon show a man indicted for conspiracy to commit bank fraud and aggravated identity theft has entered a guilty plea to the charges.

The checks are about to go out in the mail.The Georgia Department of Revenue will begin issuing one-time state income tax refunds to taxpayers this week, Gov. Brian Kemp announced Monday.The General Assembly approved the rebate - the third this decade - during this year’s legislative session.
