Deputy chief honored for decades of service

The Gray Fire Department paid tribute last week to a retiring volunteer firefighter who served citizens and fellow firefighters for three decades.
Dr. Greg DeLoach and his class “Dementia, Disabilities and Differences” of Mercer University’s McAfee School of Theology in Atlanta toured the local Central State Hospital Museum and discussed mental health history and present-day care with Seeking Asylum founder and museum curator Jessica Whitehead (red shirt, front row). Cecil Patterson brought success to Jones County schools, both athletically and academically, and he says it is due in large part to the philosophy he learned early in life.Patterson, 70, retired from the local school system in 2013 after a productive career as baseball coach and administrator.
