James Julian “Jimmy” Edwards, Jr, 60, of Gray, passed away at his home with family on Thursday, May 14, 2026. A memorial service was held on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at 3:00 p.m., at Hart’s Mortuary, Jones County Chapel. His family hosted a time for visitation one hour prior to the service in the same location.
In addition to flowers, the family would like to request donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
James “Jimmy” Edwards was born Dec.
23, 1965, to the late James Julian and Jewel McKinney Edwards in Macon, GA. He later moved to Jones County and was a founding member of the Jones County Car Cruiser Club. He loved to buy and sell cars to restore, Mopars being his favorite. He was always on the hunt for a good deal, or the opportunity to negotiate one. Jimmy never met a stranger and had friends everywhere he went.
After a 25-year career with Georgia Pacific, he became the driver of Bus #60. He worked with Jones County School System Transportation Dept. for the past 14 years and was admired for keeping his bus neat and clean. He loved his family and was thrilled to become a grandfather soon. Jimmy will be tremendously missed by his friends and family.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Lynn Edwards; a son, Kyle (Candice) Edwards; and his first grandchild, James Edwards, will be born this summer. Additionally, he is survived by his siblings, Donna (Darrell) Bass, Ricky (Leslie) Deen, Patty (Ben) Jacobs, Tina Morgan; his mother- in-law, Joan Pickren; sisters-in-law, Tracy (Daniel) McMichael and Melissa Thompson; brother-in-law, Brandon Jackson; many nieces and nephews; and a special great-niece, Caroline Page McMichael.
