A fundraiser for a 17-year-old Bibb County student with multiple Jones County family members and other connections is scheduled Saturday to help with expenses that were the result of a diving accident that left him paralyzed.
Gabriel “Gabe” Eisner was celebrating the holiday weekend July 5 when he made a dive that would change his life.
The accident fractured a vertebra in his neck and damaged his spinal cord.
Gabe underwent emergency surgery and is now in rehab at the Shepherd Center.
The Oct. 3 Car-Truck-Bike Meet fundraiser is being held at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Macon from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The church is located at 5455 Mount Pleasant Church Rd. in Macon.

In a Sept. 23 interview, Gabe’s grandfather, Frank Gibbs, said the young man is a senior at ACE Academy. He said Gabe plays basketball with his school and umpires baseball. He also works with the Macon Bacon, but his future is now uncertain.
“He’s not only my grandson,” Gibbs said.
“He’s my best friend.”
Gibbs lives in Gordon and works training dogs with Jeramie and Holly Frasure and the Jones County-based organization Working Dogs for
Veterans.
The grandfather said Gabe has been the one holding the family together during this entire ordeal.
“He smiles all the time and has been the rock of the family.”
