GSMS captures region title

Gray Station Middle School baseball coach Rico Gibson admits that his team had a desire to finish things out stronger as this season began.

That was well taken care on last Thursday at Highway 18 Ballpark.

With a dominant 7-1 win against Ace Charter, GSMS won their region title. After leading 5-0 early, the Greyhounds tacked on a pair of late runs for the final margin, touching off a dogpile celebration that ended up being in the outfield rather than the middle of the infield just prior to the championship trophy being presented.

“The kids have been working their tails off since we’ve been practicing in January. We got the results that we’ve been looking for since we started,” Gibson said. “It was a big point for us to prove going into this year because last year I thought we had to best team and should’ve won it. These guys came in with a chip on their shoulders and finished the drill for us.”
