Thanks to outstanding individual efforts and the fact that middle school runners can compete in JV high school events, some future Greyhounds have been making huge names for themselves state-wide.
Competing under the banner of the Hounds Distance Company, runners from Jones County placed fifth over the weekend at the Georgia Middle School State Championships at Parkview High School in Gwinnett County, four runners competing in the 4x800 relay placed fifth, with the team being made up of Tyler Marshall, Luke Thornton, Gavin Robinson and Grady Newby.
Going against teams from across the state, their overall time of 9:29.19 beat out multiple teams from the Atlanta area. The only AAAAA school to beat the Hounds was Chamblee, and the Hounds Distance Company also outpaced teams including Buford and Cartersville.
In addition, Isabella Sanchez was seventh in the 800 meters with a time of 2:37.12.
