Spring practice underway for Greyhounds

Decked out in full pads in amid the springtime heat, spring football practice is officially underway for the Greyhounds. The spring session wraps up May 6 with Jones County’s spring game at Veterans. From there, the team will move into its summer program of conditioning and workout before preseason practice begins in late July.

A measure of pride should be on the line in that spring game with the Greyhounds having lost back-to-back regular season games to the Warhawks. One coach from that Veterans team, Clay Hodges, was recently hired as the defensive secondary coach for JCHS.

The Greyhounds, who return a bulk of their starters from last season’s team that captured a third region championship in a row, are in the midst of an offseason with key positions to replace being center, quarterback and placekicker. So far, multiple quarterbacks have seen time under center, and the time between now and May 6 will be key for the offensive staff in evaluating the possible replacement for John Alan Richter, who early enrolled at Toledo in January.
