The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheri’s Department and Gray Police Department Sept. 10-13, 2022.
Sept. 10
Sgt. Walker was informed by Deputy Harden that his in-car tag reader alerted to a vehicle that was registered to an owner that had been wanted in Bibb County. Walker conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. When the Sgt. made contact with the driver/owner, he advised the subject that he needed to exit the vehicle.
The driver hesitated and immediately refused to get out of the car. Harden arrived and armed his taser and pointed it at the noncompliant driver and gave him more orders to exit the vehicle. The driver finally got out of the car and advised Walker that he had some drugs. Walker saw a glass pipe with methamphetamine inside of it along with a spilled substance believed to be meth on the driver’s seat that had come from a plastic bag. The driver was arrested and taken to the Jones County LEC and charged with possession of methamphetamine.
Sept. 11
Deputy Robinson was dispatched to a local residence in reference to theft of a motor vehicle. The owner of the vehicle stated it was stolen from a local business after she had left it there. Robinson went to the business and reviewed the security camera video. The video showed the owner inside the vehicle at one time. However, due to a power outage at the business, when the video resumed the vehicle was gone from the parking lot.
The owner advised she left the vehicle locked and secured and was escorted home by another deputy after an incident that occurred at the business.
Robinson advised the owner the vehicle would be placed in the GCIC/NCIC database as stolen.
Sept. 13
Sgt. Humphries responded to a BOLO on a stolen truck heading into Jones County from Macon-Bibb. The owner of the stolen vehicle was actually following behind it while updating JCSO dispatch with their location. Humphries was waiting on the stolen vehicle to approach his location. When the truck passed, the Sgt. got behind it and activated his blue lights and the driver of the vehicle continued driving then suddenly hit the brakes and turned into a driveway.
Humphries made contact with the driver of the stolen truck and the offender exited the vehicle and put his hands up without being told to do so.
Due to the nature of the call, Humphries immediately placed the subject in handcuffs. The driver advised the Sgt. he had been driving the truck for a few days now. However, he was not the person that actually stole the vehicle. When Humphries checked the driver’s name and date of birth, he discovered that the subject was wanted in Twiggs County and Macon-Bibb. The owner of the truck came to the scene along with two Macon-Bibb deputies. The deputies confirmed the vehicle was reported stolen with their agency. The subject and the vehicle was turned over to Macon-Bibb deputies at that time.
