Jones County mirrored most of the state with a majority of voters casting their ballots for Brian Kemp for governor and other Republican candidates in the down ballot contests.
Jones County also voted for Republican U.S. Senate candidate Hershel Walker by a margin close to three to one. Walker received 8,089 votes to 3,989 for Democratic incumbent Sen. Raphael Warnock.
Statewide, Warnock holds a slight edge over Walker. With neither candidate receiving more than 50 percent of the vote, there will be a runoff Dec. 6.
Jones County Election Superintendent Marion Hatton said all registered voters may vote in the runoff whether they voted in the Nov. 8 Election or not. Early voting will take place in Jones County at the Elections Office in the Government Center Nov. 28 through Dec. 2 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Turnout for the Nov. 8 election was high in Jones County with a total of 12,338 voters casting their ballots out of 20,113 registered voters, which is more than 61 percent.
As amazing as the 61 percent turnout sounds, it falls short of the 72 percent of Jones County voters who turned out for the 2020 Presidential Election.
Kemp, the incumbent Republican, received 8,583 votes compared to 3,656 for Democratic challenger Stacey Abrams. That gave the incumbent nearly 70 percent of the vote.
State Sen. Burt Jones (R) received 8,412 votes in his bid for Lt. Governor and defeated his opponent Charlie Bailey (D), who received 3,637 votes. Those margins remained similar for the Secretary of State race with incumbent Brad Raffensperger (R) getting 8,314 votes to 3,512 votes for Bee Nguyen (D).
Rick Williams (R) in State Senate District 25 received 8,468 votes to 3,719 for Valerie Rodgers (D). Ken Vance (R) won House District 133 with a margin of almost two to one, receiving 5,440 votes to 2,821 for challenger Hoganne Harrison-Walton (D). Incumbent Rep. Dale Washburn (R) captured the House District 144 seat with more than 75 percent of the vote, defeating challenger Nettie B. Conner (D) 3,075 to 856.
State School Superintendent incumbent Richard Woods (R) received 8,569 votes over democratic challenger Alisha Searcy with 3,630 votes.
U.S. House of Representatives District 8 incumbent Austin Scott (R) also easily defeated his opponent, Darrius Butler (D).
Voters choosing to cast their ballots during Early Voting outnumbered those who voted on Election Day. The voter count for Nov. 8 was 5,092 or 25.32 percent with early voters totaling 6,433, which is 32 percent. Hatton said the biggest day for Early Voting was Nov. 4, when over 600 voters came to cast their ballots.
The number choosing to vote by absentee ballots was 813.
