Man arrested for suspicious activity at construction site

JONES COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE

The report of suspicious activity at a build site in Jones County resulted in an arrest for the theft.

Jones County Sheriff Butch Reece announced the arrest of Cameron Bucher on his Facebook page Nov. 10. He said Bucher was arrested Nov. 8 by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Department.

Reece said one of the residents on Stallings Road noticed a vehicle coming in and out from a house being built in the neighborhood. He said the deputy who received the call made contact with the complaint and advised that there were several trucks believed to be stealing lumber in the area.

Over the course of the next week, there were several more complaints that came into the Sheriff’s Office stating lumber was being stolen from the new house that was being built.

“The owner was out of the state and contacted our office and advised that no one should be taking anything from the property,” the sheriff said.

He said after further investigation of the complaints, it was determined that the offender was stealing the lumber and selling it.

A report of the suspicious activity complaint by JCSO Deputy Nolan Sullivan states he was dispatched to an address on Stallings Road. The complainant reported a black truck with a trailer had left the area.

The issue was piles of lumber at a home site that kept getting smaller and smaller. The owner of the property was out of state. The complainant said multiple trucks had been seen leaving the area filled with lumber.

Sullivan said, while he was in front of the property, he saw a pickup truck with one of the reported license plates. He spoke to the driver of the truck who said he was related to Bucher and that he was aware of wood being taken to a home in Milledgeville.

The description of Bucher matched reports of the man suspected of taking the lumber.

The sheriff said the case is still under investigation. He asked anyone with information regarding this case to please contact Investigator John Simmons at the Jones County Sheriff’s Office at 478-986-3489.
