JONES COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE
The continued investigation of vehicles that were broken into at a hunting camp has resulted in more charges against an inmate already facing felony charges of aggravated assault against a peace officer.
James David Miller is now charged with felony entering auto or other motor vehicle with intent to commit theft or felony in addition to his parole violation and aggravated assault charges.
In a Nov. 10 Facebook post, Jones County Sheriff Butch Reece stated that Miller has also been charged in an Oct. 9 entering autos case. Reece said the charge followed a monthlong investigation into the crime, which found Miller committed the entering auto and burglary that took place on Highway 129 at the corner of Ellis Church Road.
A report of the Oct. 9 incident by JCSO Sgt. David Little stated the crime report included two entering auto complaints at a hunting camp. The complainants told the officer they returned to their trucks and found an unknown subject had gone through their trucks and took a crossbow, cash and a wallet.
Reece said the case remains under investigation and asked anyone with information relating to this case or Miller to contact Investigator John Simmons at the JCSO at 478-986-3489.
Miller was arrested Nov. 3 for the charge of aggravated assault against a peace officer.
The complainant on that incident report is listed as JCSO Investigator Barron Hall, and the target of the assault was Investigator Gerry Nelson.
Hall said the U.S. Marshals Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force accompanied JCSO deputies Nov. 2, to serve a warrant at a motel on Gray Highway. The subject of the warrant was not Miller, but an individual who was living with him.
Miller was in the parking lot as law enforcement arrived and upon seeing the officers, he got in his truck and attempted to flee. Hall said Miller headed toward Nelson and came close to hitting him and then his truck.
Nelson was able to jump out of the way and the suspect kept going. Miller was arrested the following day in Bibb County by U.S. Marshals.
