Hill latest addition to DA’s office

DISTRICT ATTORNEY

The most recent addition to the staff in the Jones County District Attorney’s Office got here with a few detours, including Colorado and Costa Rica.

Kigin Calla Hill was born in Minnesota and moved to Alpharetta with her family while she was in the first grade because of her father’s job. The unique spelling of her first name is because it is her mother’s maiden name.

Hill attended school in Alpharetta but went to college at the University of Colorado in Boulder.

While in Colorado, she said she enjoyed skiing and snowboarding, which she learned while visiting relatives in the area while growing up.

She said she liked science, but her focus at the time was the environment.

Hill took her time in selecting her career path, taking time to study abroad in Costa Rica at Veritas University and interning in San Bartolommeo, Peru.

“I was doing marine mammal rescue and research with a vet in San Bartolo, Peru,” she explained.

Hill said she worked for a bankruptcy attorney and interned with a personal injury attorney before starting law school at Mercer. She said her interest turned to criminal prosecution, and she started working in the Bibb County Solicitor’s Office, also known as State Court, in Macon.

When she heard about an opening for an intern at the Jones County District Attorney’s Office, Hill applied. She has been working in the office since January, with the exception of a period of time filling in to help with a staff shortage in Baldwin County.

The intern was sworn in as a third-year law student Sept. 1 by Chief Superior Court Judge Brenda Trammell and will take the state bar examine in February.

Hill is the oldest of three siblings. Her mother was a court reporter, but she said she will be the first lawyer in her family.

It appears she plans to stay in the area. Hill bought a home in East Macon and lives there with her dog, Rocky.
