Vara Lee Greene passed away on Saturday morning, Dec. 31, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. A visitation was held Thursday, Jan. 5, 2022, at First Baptist Church, Gray, Georgia at 1:00 p.m. with services following at 2:00 p.m.
Burial was at Middle Georgia Memory Gardens.
George Sheffield officiated. Vara Lee was born on Jan. 9, 1921, in Quitman Georgia to the late Roy Lee Wilson and Vara Lee Adams.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gray for over 60 years. She worked in the insurance business for most of her life and retired from Solomon Insurance Agency. Vara Lee was an amazing cook and was known to make the best pound cake around, and her biscuits were enjoyed by many. She was an avid reader and enjoyed Louis L’Amour books. She loved to dance and loved music. But, most of all she loved her family and the many friends she had made through her almost 102 years on this earth.
Preceded in death, in addition to her parents, husband, George Clarence Greene Sr., brothers, Roy Lee Wilson, Odie B. Wilson, and Leonard Wilson, sisters, Lucille Garner, Margaret Rich, Dorothy Sheffield and grandson, Bill (Elvo) Clark. Survivors include, son, George C. (Buddy) Greene Jr., daughters, Vara Hitchcock (Rigdon) and Kema Clark, grandchildren, Paulina Greene Stone (Buddy), Jon G. Greene, LeAnn Hitchcock (Dirk), Vonnie Hitchcock, Jim Clark (Kathy), 3 greatgrandchildren and nephew, Harley Rich (Kay).
