Geraldine “Gerri” Black Morgan Thomas

Geraldine “Gerri” Black Morgan Thomas was born February 18, 1936, to the late William and Maggie Black in Clinton-Jones County, Georgia. She gained her heavenly wings on July 6, 2023.

Geraldine attended Jones County Public Schools. She graduated from Fort Valley State University in 1956 with a degree in English.

Gerri furthered her studies at Columbia University in New York. She taught in Bibb and Jones counties public school systems for over thirty years. She served as Advisor of the Senior classes and the National Honor Society at Jones County High School. She also taught Adult Education in Jones County providing opportunities for many residents to earn their GED’s. Gerri was also on the faculty of Upward Bound at Mercer University.

She accepted Christ at an early age and joined St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Clinton where she served faithfully until her illness.

She was a member of the old Senior Choir, Paulites and President of the Usher Board. Geraldine was a Pearl Member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, charter member of Les Dames Magnifiques and dedicated member of the Community Service Club.

Gerri was also preceded in death by her brothers: Carl Black, Herman Black and Lawrence Card and one sister: Florence Card Morris. She leaves to cherish her loving memory three dedicated children: Carlita Morgan, Keith (Celecia) Morgan and Alicia Morgan Pitts; as well as her stepchildren: Eddie Thomas, Jr., Joseph Thomas, Bernard Thomas, Thelma Moore, Denise Thomas, Natalie Thomas, Gail Thomas, Imogene Bowen and Nadine Logan; two sisters: Jimmie Black Pitts and Mamie Daniels; two brothers: Donald Black and Michael (Ezinwanne) Iteogu; four grandchildren: Sydney Rutherford, Tyler Morgan, Keith Morgan II and Nia Morgan; a cousin/ sister: Mildred Tuggle Kitchens; two faithful caregivers: Rosa Spradley and Violet Towles and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
