NEW SCHOOL YEAR
The third annual Prayer Walk at Jones County High School, sponsored by the school’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes group, once again doubled in attendance.
Courtney Beaver, the Jones County representative for the National FCA organization, said the July 24 event included music, prayer and the distribution of pamphlets with prayer ideas for the walkers.
“Everyone walked around the building and prayed for the new school year. There were songs and a group prayer,” she said. “We try to set the tone for the school year.”
Beaver said over 100 people attended. She said the program was led by the JCHS FCA that is headed by Kelly Roberson. Attendance to the Prayer Walk has doubled each year since its beginning. Beaver said the first year there were 25 people and 50 people came last year.
The music was provided by Jordan Echols with Gray Community Church.
The representative said FCA has groups that meet at Gray Station and Clifton Ridge Middle Schools in addition to the high school, which meets every Friday morning. The National FCA organization has been in existence since 1954.
Beaver said the biggest event of the year for the Jones County organization is ‘Fields of Faith’ that is scheduled to meet on the JCHS football field Nov. 8.
“Last year it was attended by more than a thousand people,” she commented.
