A good county commissioner should be able to work well and communicate effectively with other government officials, be knowledgeable of local government, county policies, budgets, economic development, and community development. They should be able to establish a relationship with everyone in the community and hear their voices when making decisions that affects the community.
What qualities, education, and/ or experience makes you the best candidate for the job?
I attended GA College and State University where I received my bachelor’s degree in 2020, and then my master’s degree in business administration in 2022. I’ve ran two successful businesses in Jones County, one being a photography business, and the other being a used car dealership. I’ve achieved this before turning 25 years old, and I understand the importance of working with government officials, understanding laws and regulations, and seeking advice from officials with all different levels of government.
The county has several unfinished projects underway, including water expansion, road paving and repairs, a bridge replacement, completing recreational complexes and courthouse repairs. What would be your priority of these projects and why?
I would prioritize the projects by safety and the wellbeing of our community. I would choose bridge replacement being highest priority because public safety would absolutely be the most important. Next, I would choose road paving and repairs, because again, public safety is a priority. This would ensure that Jones County’s roadways are in the best possible shape for our residents, visitors, and anyone traveling through our county. I would then focus on courthouse repairs as it is important to keep our courthouse in safe and sound condition. Next, I would prioritize water expansion, as this benefits the growth of Jones County, and makes public water accessible to more of our residents. I would then focus on completing recreational complexes.
The ACCG ( Association of County Commissioners Georgia) offers training for board members. Do you feel attending that training is important for a commissioner?
I do feel that attending any type of training available is very important for a commissioner. I feel that anytime a person can learn something, the more beneficial that person will be. As a used car dealer, I take advantage of all the training and continuing education offered. It helps me learn new techniques, stay brushed up on policy and procedure, and be knowledgeable as a business owner.
Are you in support of the proposed transportation special purpose sales tax? If so, what transportation projects would you like to see funded with the collected money?
Yes, as these funds are solely used for keeping our roads in good shape. This tax benefits anyone relying on our roadways, which we all do in every capacity. Around Middle Georgia, anyone can see that a lot of the roadways are in dire need of TLC. This tax would ensure that those funds are going to the roadways and keeping anyone on the roads safe.
Jones County is in good financial shape. Would you be in favor of cutting the millage rate or keeping the current tax rate and using the money to finish current projects?
I’m in favor of keeping the current millage rate and finishing current projects. Once these projects are complete, I am in favor of putting the rate back up for review and cutting it if financially feasible.
What do you think about the working relationship between Jones County and the City of Gray? If you feel it is important, how would you improve the relationship?
I feel that the working relationship between the city and the county is essential. I think there should be planned work sessions between city and county officials to improve this relationship.
Do you feel residential growth is good for Jones County? How about industrial growth?
Residential and Industrial growth is great for Jones County. This generates revenue for the county and creates more jobs for our residents. I feel that many of our residents must make their income outside of Jones County. I think any growth in Jones County would make our community a better place to live.
What would you like the voters to know about you before casting their ballots?
I am a lifelong resident of Jones County and would like to see what’s best for our community. I think having a younger voice in office who is driven to make our community the best it can possibly be is exactly what Jones County needs.
