My thoughts have centered on the fact that a county commissioner typically possesses a combination of skills, qualities, and characteristics that enable them to effectively serve their district and fulfill their responsibilities. Transparency is a term that is frequently used, but seldom seen. This role requires an open-door policy. Representation is based on the district, where all the people are treated equally and with the respect they deserve.
What qualities, education and/or experience make you the best candidate for the job?
As a candidate with a military background, magna cum laude college education, and entrepreneurial experience, I bring leadership, problem- solving skills, financial judgement, and a commitment to service, making me well-equipped to understand and address the diverse needs of the 3rd district as their county commissioner.
The county has several unfinished projects underway, including water expansion, road paving and repairs, bridge replacement, completing recreational complexes and courthouse repairs.
What would be your priority of those projects and why?
My priority would be to prioritize projects that directly impact public safety and wellbeing, such as road paving and repairs and bridge replacement. Ensuring safe and reliable transportation infrastructure is essential for residents’ daily lives and emergency services.
Once these critical infrastructure projects are addressed, I would focus on completing the water expansion to ensure access to clean and reliable water for all residents. Then, I would allocate resources to complete recreational complexes and courthouse repairs, which contribute to the quality of life and functionality of the county’s facilities.
The ACCG (Association of County Commissioners Georgia) offers training for board members. Do you feel attending that training is important for a commissioner?
Yes, attending training offered by not only the ACCG but other facets of the government is important and essential for a commissioner to stay informed about best practices, legal requirements, and emerging issues relevant to effective governance and serving the community. Government is fluid and constantly evolving.
Are you in support of the proposed Transportation Special Purpose Sales Tax? If so, what transportation projects would you like to see funded with the collected money?
Yes, I support the proposed Transportation Special Purpose Sales Tax. I would prioritize funding for projects that enhance dirt road paving and repairs. There are roads within my district that require attention, and there is a list of projects that are at least a decade old in this county. I would prefer that a portion of the funds collected be used for these projects, along with dirt road improvements within my district. My intent is to be the voice that ensures this district receives its fair share and support.
Jones County is in good financial shape. Would you be in favor of cutting the millage rate or keeping the current tax rate and using the money to finish current projects?
I would consider both options carefully. If the completion of current projects is crucial for the county’s growth and wellbeing, I may advocate for keeping the current tax rate and using the funds to finish those projects.
However, if the county’s financial stability allows for it without compromising essential projects, I may also support cutting the millage rate to provide relief to taxpayers. Ultimately, the decision would depend on weighing the needs of the community against the impact on taxpayers.
What do you think about the working relationship between Jones County and the City of Gray? If you feel it’s important, how would you improve the relationship?
I believe a strong working relationship between the county and the city is crucial for the overall well-being and development of the area.
This could involve regular meetings between county and city officials to discuss shared goals, concerns, and projects. Additionally, fostering a spirit of cooperation and seeking opportunities for joint initiatives could strengthen the partnership and lead to more effective governance and service delivery for residents of my district.
Do you feel residential growth is good for Jones County? How about industrial growth?
Residential growth can bring both benefits and challenges to Jones County. It can stimulate economic activity, increase tax revenue, and expand the local population, contributing to a vibrant community. However, it also brings demands on infrastructure, services, and resources, requiring careful planning to manage growth sustainably and maintain the county’s character and quality of life.
Similarly, industrial growth can have positive economic impacts, such as job creation,
