A graduate of Hawkinsville High School, Noble Coley has led Bacon County to a pair of sweet 16 appearances and one elite 8 in the past six years.
Now, the former Georgia Southwestern State player is bound for middle Georgia again after being announced as the Greyhounds new head baseball coach last week.
In the mind of JCHS athletic director Chad Alligood, things could not have worked out much better with the hiring of Coley.
“It worked out exactly how we wanted it to. With my ties from around the state, you start making the calls around the state and find out who are some of the guys that are interested, and his name kept coming up over and over again,” Alligood said. “We’re fortunate to land someone of his caliber.”
Added Alligood: “His organizational plan was second to none, just talking to coaches who have worked with him and played against him, he’s going to work our kids extremely hard. His system of building relationships, and doing that away from the baseball field, it was very apparent that he was who we were looking for.”
Also key – Coley is a coach viewing Jones County as a destination opportunity and not a step on the way to something bigger.
“That’s the important thing.
You want to find coaches that want to be here and that aren’t using it as a stepping stone,” Alligood said. “Jones County is a destination place. Coach Coley, from the first time I talked with him, you could tell he had done his research on Jones County.”
