–George Sheffield “For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that ye through His poverty might be rich.”
(2 Cor 8:9) Jesus is rich in Glory, Joy,Power, Authority, Holiness; rich in total Majesty of the universe.
Yet for our sakes He became poor for some 33 years. He set aside all His glory to become poor like us. He took on the flesh of this life to live as we do, yet without sin. He didn’t come into this life as a king or a wealthy man, but came as a lowly working man.
And it’s by His poverty that we can become rich.
Not in finances, but in spirit, rich in grace and knowledge of God. Our obtaining this being rich is through the cross--Jesus’ death.
Jesus came to earth to be poor so that we could go to Heaven to be rich.
He had preached “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven”--Mt 5:3. This “rich” is everything that the kingdom of Heaven has to offer. But it is offered only through the cross. It is by His grace, not by our efforts, that we can become rich in Jesus.
From spiritual rags (Isa 64:6) to spiritual riches, this is offered to us in Jesus.
