An ongoing undercover drug investigation led to the arrest of an Acworth man on a trafficking and distribution charge.
Christian Orlando Gonzalez, 38, was arrested Sept. 30 and charged with the purchase, possession, manufacture and distribution of marijuana and the trafficking of methamphetamine.
Jones County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Barron Hall said he was working the undercover investigation for a few weeks when Gonzalez actually reached out to him. Hall said he was aware of Gonzalez from a previous undercover investigation.
The investigator said Gonzalez apparently thought he remembered Hall as someone in the market for drugs. Hall said the dealer wanted to sell him drugs, and they set a time to meet in a parking lot on Highway 49. The investigator said he was not familiar with the vehicle Gonzalez drove and did not see but one other car in the lot. Hall said he went to the meet alone, but other units were close by.
“He called me and said he was here, so that had to be him,” Hall said.
The deputy said they exchanged greetings and were quickly surrounded by officers. Hall said Gonzalez stepped on the gas and attempted to flee but was caught after a short pursuit.
“The suspect was taken into custody without incident,” the investigator said.
He added that Gonzalez was found in the possession of one kilo of methamphetamine and approximately a half pound of marijuana.
Jones County Sheriff Butch Reece announced the arrest of Gonzalez in an Oct. 2 Facebook post. He said the assistance the Jones County Sheriff’s Office was giving other counties did not keep deputies from doing their jobs.
“Even though our deputies are spread out right now, we’re still making sure to handle things here at home. On Monday, the Drug Unit arrested Christian Gonzalez after a lengthy investigation, charging him with trafficking methamphetamine and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.”
The sheriff said Gonzalez is being held at the Jones County jail without bond.
“Great work to our Drug Unit, and remember, don’t bring your drugs to Jones County.”
