Haddock hosting Christmas Festival

The community of Haddock is starting a new tradition and bringing back a former holiday tradition this Saturday.

The Haddock Christmas Market will take place Nov. 23 beginning at 10 a.m. and ending at 7:30 p.m. with a community Christmas Tree lighting and carols. The event will include food trucks, arts and craft vendors, goodies and photos with Santa.

Haley Watson, who is assisting with Jones County Chamber of Commerce activities, said the Haddock Revitalization Committee met earlier this year to discuss the growth occurring in the community. New businesses of Robert’s Roofing, Shalah’s Place and Haddock Market have opened as well as a new art facility.

“It’s our desire to keep the revitalization efforts top of mind for everyone,” Watson said.

She said committee members have projects they are supporting, such as maintaining the pole banner flags throughout downtown, keeping the flowers and streetscape looking nice and generally working to beautify and enhance Haddock.

Watson said, during the meeting discussion, they brainstormed ways to raise funds and came up with the idea of community events.

“One of the things the committee was eager to bring back was the tree lighting event, and from there, the idea of a full Christmas festival was born. We’ve been working hard to make it a reality,” she said.

Watson said, in addition to food, there will be music and performances throughout the day. Santa will be on hand as well as the devious ole Grinch.

“We’re fortunate to have wonderful sponsors, including John Comer Clearing and Grading, Tri-CoGo, West Clinton Tire, Conn Realty and DeLongs Gizzard and Equipment Co. We’re excited for this event and look forward to creating more opportunities to bring the community together and support Haddock’s growth.”
