James “Vern” Vernon Shubert, age 78, of Gray, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 18, 2024. He was born on February 1, 1946, in Maysville, Georgia, to the late James Shubert and Carrie Roebuck.
A proud Vietnam War veteran, Vern served his country honorably in the United States Army.
Following his military service, he dedicated over 30 years as a technician with BellSouth/AT&T and was a loyal member of the Communications Workers of America Union. Vern was also an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, where he continued to advocate for his fellow veterans. Vern was a man of strong opinions, a sharp wit, and a generous heart.
He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, spending his time hunting, gardening, and raising chickens.
Vern is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Shubert; his devoted daughter, Rhonda Shubert; his cherished grandson, William Jones; his siblings, Elizabeth Brown, Virgil (Dolly) Shubert, Virginia (David) Kitchens, and Lamar (Cheryl) Shubert; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Laverne Dean, Eve Meadows, and Evelyn Beard.
The family received friends during visitation on Thursday, November 21, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Gray Memorial Chapel and Crematory, 4378 Gray Highway, Gray, Georgia.
A Celebration of Life service followed at 11:00 a.m. at the same location, with Rev. Darrell Burns officiating. Vern was laid to rest at Broadlawn Memorial Gardens 5979 New Bethany Rd. Buford, GA 30518 at 3:00 p.m.
